What is a Network Camera?

A Network or IP camera is a video camera that is attached directly to your data network using standard CAT5 cables, just like a PC or Network printer. It offers many advantages over traditional video camera systems, bringing all the features and more of high end traditional CCTV systems to everyone. They are used in systems ranging from a single camera upto several 1000.

But I already have a CCTV system.

That's great. Existing analog CCTV cameras can be integrated into an IP based CCTV system with products that bring it up to speed with the latest IP technology. Replacing a VCR (Video Cassette) based system with a DVR (Digital Video recorder) is only half a solution, fundementally a fancy version of a VCR without the tapes. If instead you move to an IP based solution then many sophisticated features are either available straight away or can be integratd later in your future proofed system.

Advanced Features

An IP based video system alllows you to extend the capabilities of your system with ease. Integrating featues such as :

  • Integration with POS software so the transaction details are linked to the video.
  • Motion Tracking , counting.
  • Number plate recognition.
  • Remote security monitoring services.
